Your soul is like something that just picks things up. It comes across water, it soaks it up. It comes across black oil, condemned oil, it soaks it up. It comes across broomsticks, grains of sand, anything at all, it just absorbs it. That is your soul.
And that is the same soul Jesus comes to save. He puts His life inside you. His Spirit comes into you and is hidden there. But your soul is still present. Your personality is still there. That is why you can still do all kinds of things even after you are born again.
That is why someone can put you under pressure and something dark comes out of you. And people say, “I thought you were born again.” You are born again, but your soul did not disappear the day you got saved.
The Spirit of God has been put in you as a deposit. The Bible calls it a seal of ownership. “He set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come” (2 Corinthians 1:22). That is what has happened to you.
But your soul has been shaped over time. Not just by what you have seen since you were born, but by your background, your environment, even the influences of your forefathers. That shaping does not vanish overnight.
So you must understand this clearly: being born again does not mean your soul has been erased. It means a new life has been planted in you, and now there is a work that must continue.
