You Cannot Press On With People Who Do Not Have Pure Hearts

Jesus said He would keep pressing on today, tomorrow, and the next day. (Luke 13:32–33)

Pressing on is not easy. It is hard.

Many of us know what it feels like physically. When you push your body beyond what is comfortable, your muscles hurt. You want to stop. Everything in you says, “Enough.”

That is exactly what happens spiritually.

People pray for a while. They seek God for a season. Then they become tired.

“I’ve prayed enough.” “If God wanted to answer me, He would have answered already.” So they stop pressing on.

But Scripture tells us to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (2 Timothy 2:22)

Notice that last phrase. Not just anyone who says they pray. People with pure hearts.

Many believers are pursuing God with the wrong company. They pray with people whose lives are full of compromise.

Some follow prophets whose lives are openly immoral. Some ignore obvious sin because they believe someone has spiritual gifts.

Some people even pray together while living in sexual sin with themselves. Then they wonder why there is confusion.

The Bible did not merely say to pursue God. It told us who to pursue Him with.

If the people you are running with do not have pure hearts, do not deceive yourself into thinking that everything is fine because you pray together.

Press on with those who sincerely call upon the Lord out of pure hearts, because that is the company Scripture commands us to keep.
