Some people are always thinking, “I wish I could leave everything and do ministry.” But not everybody is called to stand in the temple service.
Some of you are called to the field. And the field is a battleground.
You can serve God in the place where you work. You can preach to people there. You can share the truth there. You can counsel people there. You can bring light into situations there.
Imagine that you are sitting in your office and you notice that one of your colleagues is going through something. Maybe they look troubled. You have developed spiritual gifts through your walk with God, including words of knowledge and wisdom. You can use those gifts where you are.
You may speak to that colleague and say, “I don’t know how to say this, but it is as though I saw a situation involving someone packing their bags, opening a door and leaving.”
And the person may respond, “How did you know? That is exactly what happened between me and my wife yesterday.”
Now what happens? The person opens up. You listen. You pray. You give counsel. Perhaps God uses that conversation to help that person’s marriage. You did not have to stand in a pulpit for that to be ministry.
This is one of the errors we have in our minds. We think ministry must always look like preaching from a platform, leading a church service, or standing in front of people.
If God has placed you in an office, be faithful there.
Be there on time. Do your work well. Let the people around you see something different in the way you conduct yourself. If you are a secretary, serve well. If you are a manager, manage well. If you are a business owner, run your business faithfully.
And when God blesses you through that work, you have resources to give toward the kingdom, the church and the purposes of God. You are still working for God.
The location of your work does not determine whether your work matters to God.
The question is whether you are faithful with what He has given you and where He has placed you.
