People of God, you are not permitted to bury what God has gifted you to do.
You cannot simply say, “I have decided to stop.” You cannot treat the grace God placed in your life as though it belongs entirely to you and you can abandon it whenever you feel like it.
I hear people talk about retiring from the work God gave them, and I sometimes wonder, does God permit these things?
If you are genuinely sick and your body is failing you, that is different. Elisha was sick with “the sickness by which he died.” We understand that. But outside of that, where did we get the idea that we can simply decide, “I have done enough. I deserve to rest”?
The gifts God gives you are not yours to bury.
I know this because I have had to learn it myself.
God called me and told me to go up the mountain, get the wood, and build His house. I obeyed. But later, I stopped. I joined another church group and, for a period, more or less shut down what God had called me to do.
Years later, when I had begun obeying again, someone outside the country sent me a message after my first Sunday meeting in years. This person knew nothing about what had happened. They said they saw what they believed was the Lord, and the message was essentially: “Never take that long to obey me again.”
At first, I defended myself internally. I thought, “How was I supposed to know?”
But it took years for me to understand how foolish that question was.
God had been preparing me for years. He had spoken. He had corrected me. He had given me instructions. He had allowed things to happen that should have helped me understand what He was doing.
I had received the gift, but I buried it.
So I am telling you what I have had to learn myself: do not bury what God has placed in you.
Do not allow tiredness, people’s opinions, circumstances, or your own reasoning to make you drop what God told you to do.
One day, He will say, “I put all of that into you. What did you do with it?”
Do not wait until that day to find out that you buried something potentially worth billions.
