Is it possible that a night season can be stretched beyond what God intended? Possibly. But we must be careful to understand how that happens. God has His own appointed night seasons. They have a beginning and they have an end. But there is another kind of darkness that is not God-ordained. It is self-generated.
Sometimes God’s night season may have ended already, but a person continues in darkness. That darkness is no longer God’s doing. It is produced by sin. It is not a “God night.” It is a self-created night.
Proverbs 4:18 talks about the path of the righteous. It shines brighter and brighter unto the perfect day. Psalm 23 confirms this. “He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” When the Lord is leading you, you are on a path that shines. However, Psalm 23 also says, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…” This means that even on the path of righteousness, God can lead you through valleys. Those valleys feel dark. They feel heavy. They can feel like death to your spiritual life. But they are valleys, not destinations. Valleys are low places. If you stay with Him, He will lead you out.
But Proverbs 4:19 says something else: “The way of the wicked is like darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.” Wickedness creates its own path. That path is dark by default. It is not a path of light that later became dark. It is darkness from the start.
So when a person disobeys God and leaves the path of righteousness, they do not enter a longer night season. They enter a different road entirely. That is why some people remain in darkness until they die. Not because God extended their night, but because they left the path.
The only way out is repentance. You must return to the path of righteousness. That is where light exists. Outside of it, there is no promise of light at all.
