When you return to the path of righteousness, you must understand something clearly: returning does not automatically place you at the brightest point of the path. You rejoin the path wherever you turned away from it. That means you could return right back into the valley.
Many people give their lives to Christ and expect instant daylight. When that does not happen, they become discouraged. But Scripture does not say the righteous never walk through valleys. It says the Lord leads them through valleys.
If you left the path while you were in a valley, it is likely you will meet the valley again when you return. That does not mean repentance failed. It means you must continue walking.
Light returns gradually. Proverbs 4:18 says the path shines brighter and brighter. That implies progression. You must stay on the path long enough for the brightness to increase.
God forgives immediately when you return. The moment you repent, you are back on the path of righteousness. At least now, you have hope of light. Even if it still feels dark, stay on it. Even if things are still tough, stay on it. Faith is how you inherit the promises.
On the path of righteousness, valleys end. On the path of wickedness, darkness never ends.
