Joshua took the land. But the tribes still had enemies they were responsible to drive out.
Again and again the book of Judges says, “They did not drive them out.” The enemies remained.
God had already given them the land. Yet because they refused to finish the work, those enemies stayed among them.
The same thing happens with many believers.
Jesus has secured the victory. Now you must drive out what still occupies your life.
Drive out lust. Drive out rebellion. Drive out sinful speech. Drive out habits that oppose Christ.
Do not stop halfway. Do not make peace with what God commanded you to remove.
Some people look at another believer and wonder why they seem to enjoy so much victory. Perhaps they simply obeyed God from the beginning. They kept driving the enemies out one by one.
Some enemies disappear quickly. Others require years of faithful warfare. That is not abnormal. But there are enemies that should have been gone long ago. The only reason they remain is because you stopped fighting before the work was finished.
God does not tell us to tolerate them. He tells us to drive them out.
