Some people think their mind only wanders. That is not always true.
Some people have built entire worlds. Places they run to whenever life becomes painful. Places they escape to when they are stressed. Places they retreat into over and over again.
The problem is not that you imagined something. The problem is the material you used to build it.
Those worlds were not built with material from heaven. Satan supplied the materials, and over time you constructed places of escape that keep you in bondage.
If the place your mind enters instead was one of the assemblies of Zion, you would meet God there. (Hebrews 12:22–24)
You would encounter His judgment. You would encounter His mercy. You would come away convicted where necessary. You would come away forgiven. You would emerge with light. You would come back ready to obey God.
But if you leave those thoughts full of bitterness. If you leave them with lust. If you leave them planning sinful actions. If you leave them unwilling to forgive. Then you did not visit one of God’s assemblies. You visited one of the enemy’s strongholds.
The evidence is always what you become when you come out. God’s presence produces righteousness. Darkness produces more darkness.
Those strongholds were never meant to be places you continually visit. They were meant to be cast down.
