Satan’s fiery arrows don’t always come like an explosion. Sometimes, they grow hotter and hotter over time.
When lust begins to come, you can block it. You can quench that fire quickly by obeying the Word of God.
But sometimes, instead of quenching it, you give it room.
Someone says, “I just wanted to check up on her.” Then you walk her home. She leans in for a hug, and you hug her. At least, if you tell the truth to your pastor after that, you may quench it after some burning. There are others who don’t tell their spiritual mentor at all. They disappear for three days, go back to the girl’s house on Saturday, fall and return much later.
These are the battles we fight.
The arrows will fly: an arrow of hate, an arrow of anger, an arrow of unforgiveness, an arrow of bitterness, an arrow of greed.
Different arrows will fly and pierce you if you don’t strike them down with the shield.
If you haven’t heard the Word of God, prepared your heart, and learned to block and push away these things, the arrows will succeed every time.
Take note of why they are called fiery arrows. They burn slowly. It’s not instant. It’s not a bomb. It doesn’t explode in a moment.
Every one of you knows what I’m talking about. That’s how temptation works. It burns slowly.
That is why you must learn to quench the fiery arrows of Satan once you notice the slightest burning.
