Many people want ministry because of what they think comes with it.
They see influence. They see attention. They see respect. They see crowds. They see titles. They see popularity.
What they do not see is suffering.
Paul said, “I want to know Christ.” Then he explained what he meant. “I want to know the power of His resurrection.” Everybody likes that part. Then he said, “And participation in His sufferings” (Philippians 3:10). People want resurrection power without fellowship in suffering.
They want authority without sacrifice. They want ministry without a cross. They want influence without obedience.
Jesus did not say, “Take up your crown and follow Me.” He said, “Take up your cross and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24)
The cross is not decoration. The cross is suffering. The cross is sacrifice. The cross is giving up your own preferences for the will of God.
When ministry becomes attractive because of fame, wealth, applause, or status, something has already gone wrong. The motive has become corrupted.
A person whose motive is fame can easily become a false teacher. A person whose motive is popularity can easily become a false prophet. The problem began before the ministry began. It started with a wrong reason for wanting the ministry in the first place.
God is not looking for people who want a platform. He is looking for people who want Christ.
