People boast carelessly today saying, “Once you are born again, all prayers are equal. It doesn’t matter how you live.” That is not what the Bible teaches.
James 5 says when a Christian sins and is sick, let him call for the elders and let righteous people pray for him.
Wait. Is the sick person not born again? Is he not a believer? Then why does scripture distinguish the prayer of a righteous man as powerful and effective (James 5:16)?
Because the righteousness of Christ and your righteous acts are not the same thing.
The righteousness of Christ brought you into the beloved. His obedience, His death, His sacrifice, His blood moved you from darkness into acceptance with God. That is justification.
But after entering the beloved, there are works prepared for you (Ephesians 2:10). The New Testament keeps warning believers that they will be judged according to what they did.
People don’t like that language anymore because modern preaching has made everybody comfortable. They tell people Christ has done everything, so believers now think obedience is optional.
Then why do you go to Church? Why pray? Why preach? Why resist temptation? If nothing matters anymore, go home and sleep. But deep down people know deeds matter.
Righteousness is a weapon of war. God listens to the righteous.
This casual Christianity where people disobey God repeatedly and still boast loudly is dangerous.
The Bible does not celebrate opinions. It celebrates obedience. God looks at actions.
