My problem with many of the prayers people pray in Nigeria is that there is no love involved in them.
You hear people praying, “Everyone that sat on my promotion, let him die by fire.” Why are you praying that somebody should die because of your promotion? Who taught you to value promotion that much?
I’m very serious. People call them dangerous prayers. You hear people asking God to destroy everyone standing in their way, but they don’t stop to consider whether their prayers are governed by love.
Now, I agree that God judges people. He judges people throughout the Bible, and He will judge. God can put words in the mouth of His servants to declare something, and someone may even die. I am fully in agreement with God doing whatever He wants.
But that does not mean you should make destruction your lifestyle. You cannot take what God does in His own judgment and use it as an excuse to pray against everybody you think is standing in your way.
If witchcraft is troubling you, you can fight in the Spirit. You can rebuke every work of darkness and every spirit of witchcraft. You can ask God to deliver you. God handles the details.
But when you start looking for somebody’s picture, printing it, putting it between your Bible, keeping it in an inner room, and setting up a small altar around it, you have gone somewhere else entirely.
You have forgotten to get understanding. You have become involved in the very kind of practice you claim to be fighting.
Don’t you know that God can handle witches? Do you think a witch is stronger than God? Why would you become like the very thing you are trying to fight?
If you follow God’s way, you will love Him and know Him. He can guide you on what to do. You may have a dream, somebody may share a dream with you, or you may come across a passage of Scripture that helps you understand what is happening. You can inquire of the Lord and ask Him to lead you.
Sometimes, the prayer can be as simple as, “Father, I ask that You set me free from every work of witchcraft, in Jesus’ name.”
You don’t have to know every detail or identify everybody you think is responsible before you can trust God to help you.
Whatever you do must be governed by love and understanding. Ask God to forgive you where you have lacked understanding, and change your ways.
