Ephesians 3:17–19 shows us that Paul prayed for believers to be rooted and grounded in love and to comprehend, with all the saints, the width, length, depth, and height of the love of Christ, which passes knowledge.
You may be in love but not rooted and grounded in love. You want to be deep in love with God and with men. You don’t want to love Him lightly. You want to love Him deeply.
This is what you should pray for. Pray to know the love of Christ. Many people don’t know the love of Christ. They know earthly love, carnal love, and all kinds of wrong love, but there is a love of Christ that you should know and pursue.
It is the love of Christ that will make you discipline your child. It is the love of Christ that will make you give to someone you don’t feel like giving to. It is the love of Christ that will make you think of others when you have something. It is the love of Christ that makes you share and endure pain for people instead of asking, “What is all this for? How does it benefit me?”
That is the love you should pursue.
Everything we are doing in Christianity is not about power, might, or wealth. It is about love. Understanding helps you love. Philippians 1:9 shows that love can abound more and more in knowledge and discernment.
So, when you pray, pray for love. Pray to know how God loves. Pray to know the love of Christ. Don’t spend all your time pursuing power while neglecting the love that should govern your life.
