Knowledge matters because you have no idea what you are going to encounter in the future.
There will be so much false doctrine and demonic teaching that you will pity the person who has no roots.
Somebody can sit in church singing, “Oh, we lift our hands in the sanctuary,” and that same person can eventually be completely deceived because they did not know.
That is what knowledge does.
Proverbs 24:5 says, “A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge increases strength.”
That is why young people need to be taught deeply.
People have asked why I would gather young people and spend hours teaching them deep things. The answer is simple: you have no idea what they are going to encounter.
The world is full of teaching. They will encounter teachings about God, teachings about demons, teachings about the afterlife, teachings about morality, teachings about the church, and teachings about everything else.
If you do not deliberately put sound doctrine into people, something else will put doctrine into them.
That is what indoctrination means.
The question is not whether somebody will teach you. Somebody will. The question is: Who is teaching you, and what are they teaching you?
This is why the apostolic era is important. The apostles, the people who sat under them, and the people who sat under those people had roots.
When false teachings began to appear, they confronted them. They did not say, “Let’s not argue about doctrine.”
They understood that doctrine matters because teaching shapes what people believe and eventually shapes their actions, choices, decisions, and thinking. That is why you cannot afford to be careless about what you believe.
You need to know where your beliefs came from. You need to know what Scripture actually says. You need to know what words mean. You need to know what the people who walked with Jesus actually taught, and you need to build your convictions from the right source.
Because life will teach you something.
You must decide today what you will be taught and who will be the one teaching you.
