Romans says not to offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but to offer yourself to God as an instrument of righteousness (Romans 6:13).
That word instrument can also be translated weapon.
Think about that. You are not neutral. Your tongue is not neutral. Your hands are not neutral. Your feet are not neutral.
You are being yielded somewhere.
Your tongue can become a weapon for deceit, gossip, slander, and destruction, or it can become a sword of truth.
Your hands can become tools for unrighteousness, or they can become instruments of service.
Your feet can run toward evil, or they can carry the gospel of peace.
Before God makes a person into a powerful weapon for His purposes, there is usually a transfer of ownership. The person settles the question of who they belong to.
Do they belong to ambition? Do they belong to fear? Do they belong to pride? Do they belong to themselves? Or do they belong to God?
Paul tells us that vessels for special purposes are distinguished from vessels for common use (2 Timothy 2:20).
Those who cleanse themselves become useful to the Master and prepared for every good work (2 Timothy 2:21).
The question is not whether God can use people. The question is whether people will allow Him to separate them, shape them, and prepare them.
God is making weapons. The issue is whether we are willing to be made.
